How to make it
Chill the glass and whisky with ice. Add cold soda and lift once with a bar spoon.
Glass: Highball. Ice: Fresh cubes unless otherwise stated. Garnish: Grapefruit peel or lemon peel.
Flavor & balance
- Boozy (Spirit-Forward) (supporting): The base ingredient remains identifiable; the strength of that impression requires tasting.
Assess sweetness, bitterness and tactile drying separately. These flavor expectations are based on recipe structure, not measured tasting scores. Actual products, ice and dilution will change the result.
Preparation & batching
Service complexity: low. Batchability: spirit components only.
- Measure and label the chosen product specification; chill appropriate glassware.
Add carbonated ingredients at service; do not shake or store the finished fizzy drink as a still batch. Workload is an editorial assessment; no labor timing or storage validation is claimed.

Recipe notes & variations
The source gives 45 mL whisky and 3–4 parts soda in its method. This working serve selects 3 parts and calculates 135 mL. Whisky character remains perceptible without making the drink a short spirit-forward cocktail.
For a Black Flannel variation, change one component at a time and record the selected product, proof, sweetener concentration and dilution. Compare it with this reference before naming or publishing the variation.
